【2023 Summer】Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) Modification Research Program 爱博物
【Program Introduction】
Over the past decade, life sciences have been developing at a pace exceeding Moore's Law. The ongoing pandemic caused by an unknown viral pneumonia has given us an opportunity to reexamine life itself. In times of crisis, it is especially important to teach children to respect nature and cherish life.
▲ In 2008, Japanese scientist Osamu Shimomura, American scientist Martin Chalfie, and Roger Y. Tsien (cousin of Qian Xuesen) won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery and modification of green fluorescent protein
It is not difficult to predict that in the next 5 to 10 years, the development of life sciences will accelerate further. Thus, the boundaries of our understanding of life sciences will determine the future of humanity. As the frontier and growth point of life sciences, molecular biology will gain significant upward momentum with public attention and support.
The instructor team at IBOWU · JSR Academy has launched a series of research programs on cutting-edge life sciences, combining unique offline experimental courses to allow students to conveniently and intuitively appreciate the charm of life sciences.
▲ Fluorescent engineered bacteria modified by students themselves
This "Green Fluorescent Protein Modification Research Program" will adopt a new teaching model combining guidance sessions and experimental classes under the instruction of frontline research experts. Students will learn the basic theoretical knowledge of molecular biology and the process of modifying GFP genes in engineered bacteria. This program will open the door for students to engage in real laboratory research operations, pursue further studies in life sciences (especially synthetic biology), and lay a solid foundation for future participation in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition.
