    【Program Introduction】

    At the end of 2019, an unknown viral pneumonia began to spread silently. Initially, we knew nothing about the virus's origin, triggering factors, or transmission vectors, leaving us to search for treatments amidst speculation and fear. It was akin to fighting a life-and-death battle against an unknown enemy.

    Through nucleic acid sequencing, researchers quickly identified the culprit behind this pneumonia as a novel coronavirus—SARS-CoV-2. Once the virus was identified, defeating the pandemic became only a matter of time.

    In the field of biology, there are countless organisms like SARS-CoV-2 that remain undiscovered or poorly understood. Yet, these tiny unknown viruses can pose significant threats to humanity. To quickly and accurately grasp information about unknown organisms, we inevitably rely on species authentication technologies, including nucleic acid sequencing.

    The instructor team at IBOWU · JSR Academy has designed a life science practice-based "Virus Identification and Species Authentication Research Program" in response to the current pandemic situation, virus detection, and prevention efforts. The program will provide detailed explanations on topics of great public concern, such as virus discovery, nucleic acid testing, vaccine development, and effective drugs.

    The National Marine Gene Bank is a comprehensive gene bank integrating marine biological resource collection and marine life digitization. It is the only comprehensive national marine gene bank currently under construction globally. Its synthesis and editing platform boasts state-of-the-art hardware and software capabilities.

    【Instructor Team】


    The instructor team is led by young scientists from the JSR Academic Committee and consists of professional researchers. All instructors for this program are from the National Marine Gene Bank and Qingdao BGI Research Institute, with research expertise spanning synthetic biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and other fields.
