【2021 Winter Vacation + Christmas】Virus Identification and Species Identification Research Project 爱博物
【Project Introduction】
In late 2019, an unknown viral pneumonia began to spread silently. Initially, we knew nothing about the virus's origin, contributing factors, or transmission vectors, leaving us to seek treatments amidst speculation and fear. It was akin to fighting a desperate battle against an unknown enemy.
Researchers quickly used nucleic acid sequencing to identify the culprit behind the pneumonia as a novel coronavirus—SARS-CoV-2. Once this virus was identified, defeating the pandemic became only a matter of time.
In the field of biology, there are many organisms like SARS-CoV-2 that we have yet to discover or understand. Yet, such a tiny unknown virus can pose a tremendous threat to humanity. To quickly and accurately grasp information about unknown organisms, we inevitably rely on species identification technologies, including nucleic acid sequencing.
The IBOWU · JSR mentor team has designed a life science practice-based "Virus Identification and Species Identification Research Project" in response to the current pandemic situation, virus detection, and prevention efforts. The project will delve into the most pressing issues, such as virus discovery, nucleic acid testing, vaccine development, and effective drugs.
